#05: 7 REASONS WHY YOU MUST ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS AS A YOUNG AND EMERGING LEADER

#AUDACITY2LEAD ASK QUESTIONS

Welcome to Episode 5 of The Audacity2Lead Podcast. I’m gradually getting off the skateboard!

On this episode I share 7 reasons to ask questions as a young and emerging leader.

I shared this story of young Francis who came to his father one day and asked, “Why is the grass green?” to which his dad replied, “I don’t know.”

“Why is the sky blue?” “I don’t know.”

“Why do I have 5 fingers?”

His dad at this point replied, “No idea.”

Francis sharply asked his dad, “Daddy, do you actually mind me asking questions?”

“Of course not, if you don’t ask, how will you know?”

Asking questions is a phenomenon that begins early in life at childhood and lasts till the last moment where life ends.

As a kid, one of the most interesting things you do is ask questions. But as you grow up and develop into youth-hood, you tend to be shut off from asking questions.

Every time you ask a question, there seems to be a ready answer why you should be quiet. Your quest to want to know grows bigger even because of that.

Very few people get the chance to ask question. Even fewer than that get to receive satisfactory answers to the few questions they ask.

In this episode, here are 7 reasons to ask questions

  1. Questions are everlasting and indispensable tools in the search for understanding and growth and human development.
  2. Questions lead to discoveries.
  3. Questions shape the future.
  4. Only by asking questions can you find clarity.
  5. Asking questions gives you the chance to create significant alignment and move forward especially as you lead others.
  6. Asking questions is the difference between authority-based leadership and facilitative leadership.
  7. Lastly, Mentoring begins when you ask the right questions.

I believe creativity is unlocked when right questions are asked. So beyond just asking questions, it is critical you ask the right ones.

In the next episode, I will help you identify key questions you should be asking as a young leader, how to find answers to most of them –and I can tell you, it is none of those that you know.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

I am putting together a small number of questions I would love you to provide answers to. Answering these questions would help me know how to serve you better.

The questions shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes to answer. They are short and direct to the point, and won’t task your brain too much. I will share the link to the question in the next episode.

TIP OF THE WEEK

On the tip of the week, I share my Personal Quarterly Review process I use to align my life and get clarity on the things I do.

The last time I did that was the week after the Audacity2Lead conference.

My process:

Turn off internet and the noise of social media

Spend a few days praying.

[NEW] Travelled to a new place which opened me to new ideas (which includes a new book I’m writing.)

Ask critical questions about your life plan, and make decisions to chart the future in a more compelling way.
